#bookreview – Games of Scones – by @samtongewriter @ukcarina

Game of SconesGame of Scones by Samantha Tonge
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was pulled straight into the world of Game of Scones from the first page and I really didn’t want to leave, so I was thrilled to learn that Samantha Tonge is writing a Christmas sequel.
This is a lovely, engaging and very emotional read that whisks the reader to the beautiful Greek island fishing village of Taxos and into the life of the lovely Pippa Pattinson.
Pippa has a handsome and suave boyfriend Henrik but things are not as perfect between them as they might seem and being in Taxos again, surrounded by people she loves and a lifestyle she realises she could enjoy, Pippa starts questioning everything she thought she wanted – especially whenever her handsome, mocha-eyed childhood friend Nico is near.
I LOVE, LOVE LOVED this novel. Samantha Tonge’s author voice is warm and funny and I completely identified with Pippa’s yearning for a simpler life away from the mad rush that so many of us experience these days. I also have a sudden yearning to bake scones because I had no idea that they were so versatile! Roasted pepper and feta here I come…

#bookreview – Tied Up With Love – by @Amelia_writes @ukcarina

Tied Up with LoveTied Up with Love by Amelia Thorne
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From its exciting opening, Tied Up With Love grabbed me and pulled me into its fast paced world of love, passion, heartbreak and the world of KMW. The main characters Izzy and Ethan are adorable with their insecurities, their mutual passion and their fierce devotion to their morals. Izzy is funny, sweet and kind and Ethan is an absolute hunk with that hot, dark, brooding, raw masculine thing going on. OH MY!!!
The story line was completely original and I gasped when I first read the plot line but it works SO WELL!!! Amelia Thorne creates gripping novels that are very well written with intriguing premises, tightly weaved stories and secondary characters that enhance and develop the plot. (Gizmo is the cutest, sweetest guy!)
I read Beneath the Moon and the Stars and loved that story and now I want to go back and read Tied Up With Love all over again. Amelia Thorne is a writer to watch because the lady is a rising STAR with the ability to TIE her readers to her wonderful books. I cannot wait for the next one!

#bookreview – How to Bake the Perfect Pecan Pie – by @henningland @ukcarina

How to Bake the Perfect Pecan PieHow to Bake the Perfect Pecan Pie by Gina Henning
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

How to Bake the Perfect Pecan Pie was an engaging light-hearted romance. I loved Gina Henning’s sweet, energetic prose and read this book within hours.
The main character Lauren was funny and ditzy and I adored her fast-paced thoughts as she tried to negotiate her way around her family and the gorgeous stranger/pecan hoarder Jack.
Lauren is adorable, Jack is hunky-tender (perfect hero material…YUMMY!!!) and Lauren’s family’s antics sent me into fits of laughter as each one revealed hysterical idiosyncrasies… and don’t even get me started on the PDAs!!! 😉
A fabulous read that will whisk you away from reality and make you smile. So go on, treat yourself!

One Hundred Christmas ProposalsOne Hundred Christmas Proposals by Holly Martin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well I loved One Hundred Proposals so when I found out that Holly Martin was writing a Christmas sequel, I was beyond excited! And guess what… she did not disappoint!
I devoured this book in an hour because it was so amazing. It was wonderful to be with cute, crazy Suzie and hot, sweet Harry and to see how things have progressed for them over the past six months. They are just the perfect couple and it was fabulous to read about them again.
I giggled, I cried, I gasped and I swooned my way through this story and I enjoyed it so much that I might just go and read it all over again for the sheer enjoyment of it!
Thanks to the gorgeous Holly for writing this fabulous Christmas read!
I would LOVE to meet Harry and Suzie again next year… HINT…HINT… XXX

#bookreview – Christmas Wedding at the Gingerbread Cafe – by Rebecca Raisin @jaxandwillsmum @carinauk

Christmas Wedding at the Gingerbread Cafe (Gingerbread Cafe, #3)Christmas Wedding at the Gingerbread Cafe by Rebecca Raisin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Christmas Wedding at the Gingerbread Café was an enchanting read. I adore Rebecca Raisin’s beautiful dreamy prose and how it magically transports me into the world she has created. I have read the other books in the series as well as The Bookshop on the Corner and I cannot wait to read Secrets at the Maple Syrup Farm in 2015.
This story has everything you could want in a Christmas read: a wedding, snow, gingerbread, characters you love and plenty of lovely twists and turns to make you smile, sigh and even cry.
I enjoyed my return visit to Ashford and seeing Lil and Damon – the characters I’ve grown so fond of – making their bond official was extremely emotional and satisfying. Of course, I can’t forget others like Cee Cee and Missy. I’m really going to miss them all!
Thank you, Rebecca, for writing this absolute gem of a tale. XXX

#bookreview – Love, Lies and Lemon Cake – by @suewatsonwriter @bookouture

Love, Lies and Lemon CakeLove, Lies and Lemon Cake by Sue Watson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This novel was my first by Sue Watson but it won’t be my last. Reading it was as warming and enjoyable as snuggling up in front of an open fire, with a mug of hot chocolate, wrapped in the arms of the one you love.
Sue Watson captures the reader from the first page with her funny, warm, emotional style. Love, Lies and Lemon Cake is a poignant tale of getting older and what happens to a forty-something woman when her marriage has turned stale and her beloved child has flown the nest.
The story is fabulous and I was rooting for Faye Dobson all the way, especially whenever she saw sexy, Australian hunk Dan – a very hot younger man! Faye’s runaway mouth is hysterical (especially whenever she’s near Dan) and I cringed with her as she talked herself into some sticky situations. However, it is lovely to see how Dan reacts to her and how she begins to see herself differently through his eyes. Faye’s character is offset by a host of secondary characters such as her loveable yet unlucky-in-love boss who comes with her own set of problems and amusing idiosyncrasies.
I have to warn you though, reading this book could seriously increase your appetite. Sue Watson’s descriptions of food were absolutely divine! Faye makes regular visits to the deli where Dan works and with her vivid descriptions of sundried tomatoes, freshly baked bread and an array of cheeses, I was positively drooling – over Dan too, I have to add.
This is a novel to lift your spirits and to lose yourself in. It proves an addictive read and I was excited every time I sat down with it because I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next.
Love, Lies and Lemon Cake made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me start thinking about making my own living list…

#bookrelease – Beneath the Moon and the Stars – by Amelia Thorne @Amelia_Writes @ukcarina

Beneath the MoonBeneath the Moon and the Stars by Amelia Thorne is out now. Here’s the blurb.
Home, sweet home…
Joy Cartier has been to some of the most beautiful places in the world – but none of them have ever felt like home. So moving into a tiny cottage in the idyllic village of Bramble Hill, walking distance from her childhood home, seems like the perfect plan.

That is, until she gets there. The surly inhabitants of Britain’s Friendliest Village are anything but welcoming. Even her neighbour, reclusive Hollywood star Finn Mackenzie, takes one look at her and walks in the other direction.

But when the village animosity steps up a gear, it is the infuriatingly brooding Finn who keeps coming to her rescue. Slowly Joy begins to realise that maybe a happy home isn’t about where you live, but who you’re with…
