#halloween #excerpt #paranormal #romance

I thought that as it’s Halloween, I’d post an excerpt from a wip. It’s an erotic vampire romance that I started quite a while ago and have yet to finish. Let me know what you think. Would you like to know what happens next?

Sean perched on the edge of the roof, looking up at the surrounding buildings. Despite his high vantage point, he could still feel the vibrations from the music that was blasting out in the club below. The nightclub was housed in the cellar of an old office building. It had been jazzed up recently by one of those big corporations that own chains of clubs and pubs and it seemed to be very popular.
The dated building was dwarfed by the others; a remnant from an earlier time. Sean found this strangely comforting. It was an anachronism, just like him.
The autumn wind whipped at his dark hair, tumbling his heavy locks down over his forehead, and stinging his sensitive eyes. He shook his head to free his hair from his long eyelashes and growled in frustration as the wind repeated its previous irritation. The biting winds carried a thousand aromas upon them and he could pick them out at will; savour each one, then cast it away just as quickly. It was a skill that he had perfected over the years and one that had not come easily.
Noises from below caused him to look down. A few drunks tumbled out of the club and into the alleyway, laughing and hiccupping before cursing as the chill winds threatened to return them to almost immediate sobriety. The corners of his mouth twitched when one of the drunks began to slur an old Irish ballad, arms wrapped around the shoulders of a drinking buddy, as they staggered off into the night.
Suddenly, he sniffed hungrily at the air. Then again, and this time he inhaled deeply. There she was! His eyes penetrated the gloom that cloaked the streets beneath the club’s neon sign, flickering quickly over half a dozen heads until he spotted her. He heard her heels clicking on the sidewalk as she left the noise and warmth of the club behind, striding out into the alleyway, not pausing even to button her coat against the chill.
He was impressed at the young woman’s speed, considering the height of her heels, and he was entranced by the way that her wavy blonde hair was whisked around by the wind like a golden tornado. Sean focused on her and savoured the light coconut fragrance of her shampoo and the delicate cinnamon notes of her perfume. His mouth watered. His stomach growled.
As the woman walked away, Sean leapt powerfully up and across the roofs of the buildings, following her, keeping her continuously within his sight.

What happens next??? 😉

Because the way to a man’s heart…
Eight years ago, the world was their oyster. Until, that is, competing chefs Ethan Martin and James Lassiter’s hot and heavy relationship fizzled after Jamie left for an internship in Paris. Even though Jamie’s career has taken off since his return to the States, with his own television show and a lot of fame, his feelings for Ethan have never quite gone away.
Ethan’s culinary career has developed more slowly, but he’s almost saved enough to buy the restaurant where he works and re-open it as his dream spot, Bistro 30. If only he could get the sexy chef who loved him and left him out of his mind.
But when someone starts sabotaging the restaurant and a fire threatens to take away everything Ethan holds dear, his only option is to rely on Jamie for help. Back in close quarters, the two men will have to find a way to work through their past if they hope to save the restaurant—and their future.
See how Ethan and Jamie’s romance began in In the Raw, available for Pre-order now!

When we made it to the sofa I nudged him to sit. Instead, he turned to face me. Even intoxicated, the way Ethan looked at me now, heavy lidded eyes tinged with heat, was the way I’d remembered him. No anger, no accusations, no bitterness, just a hint of my Ethan. But he wasn’t my Ethan anymore, was he?
When he slid his hands up my arms to cup my face I should have moved. I should have told him no. But I didn’t. Instead my heart warred with my mind over what was right and what I had dreamed of since we said our last goodbyes all those years ago. This was the reason I couldn’t stay with anyone. No one but Ethan had ever made me feel alive like this.
I watched with shock as he leaned in close and brushed his lips over mine. A sigh escaped him as his fingers curled against my skin. Overwhelmed by how good he felt against me, I closed my eyes and breathed him in.
When I parted my lips, Ethan’s tongue brushed against mine and my resistance broke. My fingers tightened against the fabric of his borrowed T-shirt, pulling him closer as he deepened the kiss. I startled when a hint of metal brushed my tongue, knowing I’d discovered a new piercing.
Ethan’s low groan echoed mine and I turned my head, kissing him deeper. Passion warred with possessive need as he responded, both of us vying for dominance as we each tried to control the kiss. This was too much. With a pained sound, I pulled back, my breath uneven as I rested my forehead against his. As good as this felt, it was too much to digest after too much time had passed, coupled with alcohol and bad judgment.
“You need to sleep.”
He nodded and I stepped back and grabbed a blanket from the closet, nudging him to lie on the couch. I spread it over him and Ethan’s eyes finally closed as his body sank against the cushions. When I straightened up to shut off of the lamp next to the couch I froze at his barely audible words.
“I would have chosen you.”

A Stunning Debut… #bookreview @Amelia_writes @ukcarina

Beneath the Moon and StarsBeneath the Moon and Stars by Amelia Thorne
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a stunning debut from a gifted author. Amelia Thorne has the ability to combine comedy, romance, spice and mystery in one gripping plot.
Joy Cartier, the heroine, is bright, talented, strong, petite and beautiful. She has a rescue dog called Darcy and a caring brother but is otherwise all alone in the world. She has a tragic and troubled past, but in spite of this, she carves out her way in the world without fear or hesitation – LITERALLY! 😉 I loved the fact that, even though Joy was tiny, she kicked ass whenever anyone tried to get the better of her. She is a heroine you can empathise with, adore and admire.
Finn, gorgeous, rich movie star and Joy’s new neighbour is HUGE! Oh boy! In every way you can imagine… This is a man you just have to read about. He’s deep, dark and dangerous like Heathcliff, yet penetrate beneath the tough exterior (pleeeaaassse) and he’s as sweet and passionate as they come. He’s as drawn to Joy as she is to him but he fights his attraction to her and it makes for scintillating reading. Will they won’t they…?
Other characters include brothers Casey (an absolute sweetheart) and Zach (tart with a heart) and the vile villagers of Bramble Hill – Britain’s’ friendliest’ village. Warning: watch out for this lot though as they bring their own troubles and dilemmas into Joy’s already turbulent life.
Amelia Thorne is an author to watch and I will certainly be keenly awaiting her next novel.

#bookrelease – Intervention – by Mia Kerick @lovebitessilk

Intervention by Mia Kerick
Publisher: Harmony Ink
Genre: Young Adult / GLBT / Romance

As a musician at the popular college café
Coed Joe’s, high school senior Kai Manter is never lacking for male attention.
Out, proud, free-spirited, and sexually aware, Kai sets his sights on his
darkly Gothic and undeniably bad-tempered coworker, Jamie Arlotta, a freshman
at the local arts university. Sporting long hair and alluring hippie style, Kai
expects his interest will be reciprocated, with satisfying sex as the end goal.
That’s what usually happens. But Jamie’s lessons in life have been harsher.
Having been sexually abused by his older stepbrother for several years, Jamie
has grown an impenetrable outer shell meant to keep the world at a safe
Kai is angry at first when he takes the
brunt of Jamie’s bad temper, but after Kai accidentally discovers the abuse
Jamie has suffered, he wants to fix things. Kai’s plan is based on what he
knows best—music—and he stages a “musical intervention” to let Jamie know he’s
not alone and things can get better. When Jamie’s perspective changes and he
emerges from his shell, Kai changes, too, gaining a whole new understanding of
what sex can be when love is there too.

Top Ten!! Songs in Intervention. By Mia Kerick

Music, and in specific, pop music, inspired me to write my first YA novel, Intervention. I wish it was some type of super cool, unconventional musical selection like “Eclectic Prog” that served as my muse, but alas, it was the American Top Forty. In my defense, I included songs from the top forty lists of the past twenty years’ (and more), so I’m pretty sure you will find them catchy.

My challenge was to encapsulate the entire meaning of the song in less than two lines. And in order to work the message I wanted to relay into the text of the novel, I had to study the lyrics and be very selective over my choice of phrase. That was kinda fun, but incredibly hard to do. And so I invite you to take a look at ten songs—there are many more—from Intervention, and the lyrics I chose to help Kai speak to Jamie.

Kai is a high school senior who works as a musician in a college coffee bar.

Jamie is the very broken college freshman who is a server at the coffee bar and will only listen to Kai’s words when they are in song.

1.Sara McLachlan’s “Angel”—the first song Kai performs during which he notices Jamie noticing him. You’re in the arms of an angel, may you find some comfort here.

Jamie desperately needs comfort.

  1. Tears for Fears’ “Mad World” performed Adam Lambert (American Idol) style—the dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had. When Kai performs this song Jamie literally runs away. It hits too close to home.
  1. “Freedom ’90” by George Michael—Kai performs this song to underscore both Jamie and his need for freedom from those who want to control them. All we have to see is that I don’t belong to you and you don’t belong to me.
  1. Nine Inch Nail’s “Hurt” performed Johnny Cash style—I focus on the pain, it’s the only thing that’s real. Kai tries to show Jamie that he understands his pain.
  1. Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know”. Kai wants Jamie to know it is okay to be angry. It’s not fair to deny me of the cross I bear that you gave to me.
  1. R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts”. When you’re sure you’ve had enough of this life, well hang on… Kai tries to show Jamie that he should hang onto the hope that things will get better.
  1. The Beatles’ “Long and Winding Road”—The long and winding road that leads to your door… This song is in Kai’s mind as he tries to fall asleep one night after he meets Jamie, because he knows the road to Jamie’s heart is going to be long and winding, with no shortcuts.
  2. ”Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield—I’m just beginning, the pen’s in my hand, ending unplanned. Jamie asks Kai to sing a song of inspiration to a long lost friend.
  1. Elton John’s “Your Song”—My gift is my song and this one’s for you. Music is all Kai has to offer Jamie and he knows it.
  2. “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel—I want to be that complete; I want to touch the light the heat I see in your eyes. You will need to listen to the audiobook to find out where and when and why Kai sings this to Jamie.

Beneath the MoonBeneath the Moon and the Stars by Amelia Thorne is out now. Here’s the blurb.
Home, sweet home…
Joy Cartier has been to some of the most beautiful places in the world – but none of them have ever felt like home. So moving into a tiny cottage in the idyllic village of Bramble Hill, walking distance from her childhood home, seems like the perfect plan.

That is, until she gets there. The surly inhabitants of Britain’s Friendliest Village are anything but welcoming. Even her neighbour, reclusive Hollywood star Finn Mackenzie, takes one look at her and walks in the other direction.

But when the village animosity steps up a gear, it is the infuriatingly brooding Finn who keeps coming to her rescue. Slowly Joy begins to realise that maybe a happy home isn’t about where you live, but who you’re with…

Thanks to all the lovely readers who visited my blog as part of the Evernight Publishing Birthday Celebrations Blog Hop.

This was my question:

I loved reading all of your comments and it was difficult to decide which one I liked the most. I ended up torn between two:

I am a ranch hand in the barn. Someone comes in the barn. At first I don’t realize that I have company, but he suddenly presses his body against mine. He whispers in my ear and I recognize his voice. I have been lusting after the owner of the ranch since I started working there. He first blindfolded me, slowly takes of my clothing, ties my hands behind my back and caresses my body. He kisses my neck and slowly moves lower down my body.

I guess you can see where this is going………

from ‘Kyra Tinker’

and this one:

I would love to be in a barn where a sexy, drop dead gorgeous cowboy comes in after working the ranch all day. His body is rippled with muscles, he comes toward me asking me what I’m doing at his ranch when I tell him I wanted to see the animals.. He pushes me up against the stall and says you want to see an animal I’ll show you and animal as he rips my shirt open buttons flying everywhere. Well I’m pretty sure you can tell what happens next. LOL . I did enjoy this book, so many things that in this time that was hidden due to stereotypes and you played them well. I loved that Amber was so outgoing and went for what she wanted although most young women didn’t do this especially if they didn’t want a reputation. Thanks for sharing.

from ‘Haley Miller’

However, I had to choose so Haley Miller, you get the $20 Amazon voucher which I will email to you and Kyra, I’ll email you a copy of one of my books.

Have a great weekend!

#guestpost – Inspired By A Book – By Jess Michaels @jessmichaelsbks

Hi everyone and thanks so much to Molly for having me here today! You’re getting me during a release week (my newest erotic historical romance, A MOMENT OF PASSION, came out on October 14) so I’m at a very exciting point right now. Almost 50 books published and a release week is still exciting.

MomentOfPassion-A72lg I’m often asked by readers about how I get my ideas, which always makes me laugh. My problem isn’t needing ideas, it’s having too many. They wake me up at night, invade the shower, yell at me in the car, pop up when I’m reading or watching TV and pretty much any time I don’t have a notebook and pen close by. It’s fun to have them, fun to plan them, but also really tiring.
What I can tell you is that sometimes a book or a series is inspired by one little thing. It could be a great character (like my Mistress Matchmaker in the series of the same name) or an act (like the kidnapping of a woman that inspired my Pleasure Wars series) or even an item. My newest series is that kind of series.
It all started with a book. I had this idea about a scandalous book circulating through London Society. A book about sex, but also about passion and partnership in marriage. Basically, the kind of thing meant to cause a scandal of epic proportions! And of course, I had to write the stories of three friends whose lives are changed by it.
The first book, A Matter of Sin, came out in July and featured Isabel, a widow determined to help her sister make a good match. But when she meets the most eligible bachelor in London, Seth, their passion is helped along by The Ladies Book of Pleasures. The second book, A Moment of Passion, features Jacinda, a lady fallen from grace in Society who turns to her old friend Jason for help when she is caught reading The Ladies Book of Pleasures by a really wicked duke. But help turns to intense desire as the danger for Jacinda increases.
Finally, the last book, A Measure of Deceit, is out December 9 and features the last friend in the trio, Grace. And I can’t tell you too much about her hero, Connor, because… SPOILERS!! But he’s a very, very sexy Scot! 
It’s been really fun to write a series focused not only on a set of friends, but their experiences from one book. I hope you will enjoy it, too! 🙂
